The new phygital ecosystem 100% focus on the future of work and remote working

From remote working to automation, flexible mobility solutions, AI, continuous learning, freelancization and beyond, the ‘Future of Work’ has been accelerated with the Covid-19 crisis. Organizations that are able to adapt themselves quickly to the new ways of working and the next normal will come out stronger.

Beci, together with a network of partners launches the WorkLab:  a Brussels ecosystem, made up of private and public actors, to provide a response to today's and tomorrow's societal challenges in the field of mobility, human resources and real estate.

Why

According to the BECI Political Barometer (July 2020 and December 2020), 48% of Brussels employers have noticed a change in the travel habits of their employees since the COVID-19 crisis. This is mainly an increase in teleworking and/or flexible hours (64%). There is also a shift from public transport to the car (53%) and a shift from public transport to cycling (32%).

It remains to be seen whether teleworking will remain the norm after the health crisis. 86% of respondents also indicate that they also want to invest in teleworking in the future and 28% of the companies surveyed consider it in any case to be one of the most important HR challenges in the future. In addition, 70% of companies say they are ready to facilitate the change in the travel habits of their employees in a post-Covid world.

If we facilitate structural teleworking, solutions will have to be found for the rehabilitation of office buildings, which are now half empty. A complete paradigm shift in the way we work and travel will of course have to be discussed between employers and employees. How to effectively manage teleworking ? How to manage a team remotely ? Will training be necessary in this regard? The speed at which teleworking has had to be implemented since the onset of the health crisis has yet to answer all of these questions. We will have to get down to it.

The WorkLAB aims to optimize the positive effects of this change and to consider solutions to possible perverse effects.
